A Season of Urban Art: Creative Debuts and Trapped in Zone One Bring their Summer Showcase to East London

Street art has come a long way since it first appeared on cityscapes across the world; initially discredited as mere “yoof vandalism” it’s now legitimised as a powerful, political art form, that uses the urban sprawl as part of its aesthetic and thematic intent. This summer, online art platform Creative Debuts are working in collaboration with Trapped in Zone One to host their first urban art exhibition. Over 40 artists will be showcasing their work at the Black and White Building, suitably located in London’s East End – one of the city’s most creative hubs.

If you’re questioning your street art credentials, and fretting over your own legitimacy in this arena then fear not; the focus won’t be limited to graffiti art. Proving that there’s more than a ladder and some cans of spray paint in the urban artist’s toolbox, the exhibition covers a range of genres, including illustration, photography and stained glass.

To add to the mix, preview night will include a live art show courtesy of zine makers/art collective Gums and Tongue, sponsored by Great Art. With such a plethora of works on view, you’ll probably want a little alcoholic refreshment; luckily Amigos Tequila Beer will be on hand to satisfy your tastebuds with their selection of complimentary drinks on offer.

Open your eyes to the canvas that is our city, and celebrate the artists at this year’s Summer Showcase.
