A/W Trend: Tartan

Tartan is one of the biggest Autumn/Winter trends of 2013. We have seen an insurge of designers such as Tommy Hilfiger and Stella McCartney showcasing their Tartan Collection on the runway.

With the main colour scheme of Tartan being Red and Black, there are also many different coloured items of clothing using this trend from Navy to Cream, to Green to Pink. Kate Middleton was seen sporting a Tartan Winter Coat with the colour scheme of Navy, Grey and a hint of black.

Whatever style of clothing you prefer whether it be leggings or a dress there’s definitely something out there for you. If you really want to go all out you can wear a pair of Tartan Leggings and a Tartan Shirt. If you’d rather still stick to the trend but want it a bit more low key you can get yourself a pair of shoes, snood or even just a purse.

Many celebrities have been seen wearing the Red and Black colour scheme such as Taylor Swift, Fearne Cotton and Rita Ora. With many people having designers and celebrities as their clothing inspirations it’s looking like Tartan is definitely in and will be one of the must have items this Winter.

The best thing about tartan is you can either style it up into a ‘Night on the Town’ look or an everyday casual look. For those warmer but still slightly colder days I’d style the Tartan Leggings with a light coloured tee such as white or cream rather than a bolder colour to save the leggings from having too much of a colour clash. To finish the look, why not style it with a Black Leather Jacket and a pair of Converse.

For another everyday look but on those even colder days, take the Tartan Shirt and pair it with a simple pair of plain black leggings rather than a patterned or coloured pair so the shirt stands out more. Add a Green Parka Jacket and a pair of brown ankle boots to add to the Winter look and finish it off with a beanie and a snood.

Style this Smock Dress with a pair of black tights to make the colours on the dress stand out more. Add a black Blazer Jacket and a pair of Black wedges to give it more of a glam look for either a meal or a night out. I’d definitely add some accessories as well such as a long necklace or spiked necklace, a few bracelets and a simple pair of stud earrings.
