Celebrate China’s Golden Week with Cantonese Eatery Hakkasan

Though the Chinese annual holiday Golden Week was only recently implemented (in the year 2000 to be precise), it’s making international waves over here in the U.K. Many Chinese residents invariably travel to London during this time for a well-earned city break, and one of the capital’s best-loved Cantonese restaurants will be celebrating in the way they know best; by serving up an exclusive and limited edition menu for customers throughout the festival’s duration.

Spanning across seven days, it commemorates the founding of the Chinese Republic. Workers are given three days’ paid holiday, and the surrounding weekends are re-arranged so that the country can enjoy seven full days off – hurrah! It takes place from the 1st – 7th October, though don’t worry if that doesn’t suit your schedule; the restaurant will be extending the menu’s offerings for one month to celebrate in excess.

The menu is a collaborative effort; lovingly created by Hakkasan’s Executive Chef Tong Chee Hwee and David Muñoz, owner and Executive Chef of StreetXO in Mayfair. Expect a diverse partnership of global tastes, inspired by dishes from around the world.

Singaporean native Chef Tong earned his Michelin star in 2002, after taking up his place at the helm of this modern Eastern eatery. Since relocating, his cooking has become a sought-after destination for modern Asian cuisine with something equally, and fundamentally authentic about it.

It’s set to be a homely return for Muñoz too, who spent the early part of his career training under Chef Tong at Hakkasan London. His formative education and Madridian heritage culminate to conjure up a street food inspired feast, boldly flavorsome with an artisan’s attention to detail. His playful approach to food is wholly creative.

So expect citywide intrigue as autumn approaches, because a culinary Odyssey to the East is on the horizon.

The menu will be available in Hakkasan Hanway Place and Hakkasan Mayfair from the 22nd September – 22nd October.
