CitizenM Hotel Review

This boutique chain hotel has been creating quite a stir, its quirky style and compact rooms are quite the thing! I visited the CitizenM in Shoreditch, located in Holywell Lane, which is tucked away down a side street, right in the heart of Shoreditch. You are in walking distance to some of the best bars and restaurants along with the famous Brick lane and Old street tube station, is only a 10 minute walk away.

When I walked through the door I was greeted with a wooden spiral staircase, I took the lift up to the lobby and was instantly hit with bright colours and a quirky interior: brightly patterned cushions, red tables, modern art and quirky home accessories. You feel like you’ve walked into an artist’s living room instead of a hotel reception, it’s certainly an instgrammer’s dream!

Check in is super quick, as like no other, you are greeted with computer terminals where you check in yourself, with the assistance of a staff member. You even get to program in your own hotel door key card.

Rooms in citizenMs are notorious for being small but to my surprise they do manage to squeeze in a king sized bed, which is very comfy, there’s also a desk and stool next to the bed and the shower and toilet are in a cubicle in the middle of the room. The room in predominately red and white, with a no fuss attitude. It also has three different international plug sockets near the bed, an absolute dream for travellers, how many times have you gone abroad and forgot to pack your travel adapter, then cried as your mobile battery dies on the first night. CitizenM, that’s a very nice touch indeed!

There is no tea and coffee facilities in the room which I must say was missed, but they do have a bar open 24 hours and I must say it’s a great way to get to know the fellow hotel guests. The breakfast bar provides a great buffet in the morning, and I found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming.

There are 216 hotel rooms and this being the third CitizenM to open in London, we are excited to see what the future holds for CitizenM, we have been told that expansion in London and across the world is happening thick and fast, and so we look forward to visiting the new CitizenM hotels.
