Explorer Talks with Opihr Gin and Mr Fogg's Review

Monday night I was invited to the fascinating Mr Fogg’s Residence in Mayfair to sip Opihr Gin cocktails and listen to exciting tales from explorer and micro adventurer Alastair Humphreys. Mr Fogg’s is a fantastic bar which resembles the living room of Phileas J Fogg .Esq. Stunning bird cages dangle from the ceiling along with bikes and all other types of fascinating memorabilia.

The reason we were getting to listen to Alastair Humphrey’s exciting tales is due to Mr Fogg’s Explorer Talks. These are a collection of intimate talks featuring epic travellers’ tales told by some of the world’s greatest sea-faring daredevils, survival maestros, and courageous adventurers. Tonight’s explorer talk featured Alastair Humpreys.

Who is Alastair Humphreys, you may ask. Well Alastair is an English adventurer, author and motivational speaker. His first big adventure was completing a four-year bicycle journey around the world. It took him 4 years and his story is truly inspiring.

Alastair shared his stories which range from the exciting to the extreme. These are the stories that you only see on TV, in the National Geographic and in movies. So to be able to be in the same room and listen to someone who has actually done all that, is something memorable.

Waiters in period costumes served Opihr Gin cocktails during the event. Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin is known as the spirit of adventure and Opihr’s exotic botanicals are taken from the Ancient Spice Route. So really it was the perfect Gin to be drinking while listening to Alastair’s amazing journey cycling around the world. For those that aren’t huge gin drinkers’ Opihr Gin may be the gin to change all that. It really is something special.

The Micro Adventure Opihr Cocktail, The Oriental Journey and The Atlantic Row Opihr Cocktail were refreshing and practically perfect. Adeptly named after Alastair’s Row across the Atlantic and his coined term the Micro Adventure for the event.

Micro Adventure… What’s that I hear you ask? Well once you know the term and if you’d been sitting in the audience during Alastair’s talk… you’ll be ready to pack your bags and head on one yourself. A micro adventure is an adventure that is short, simple, local and best of all CHEAP – yet still fun, exciting, challenging, refreshing and rewarding.

I left the event, truly inspired to venture out of my comfort zone and have an adventure… big or small of my very own. Luckily I received a copy of Alastair’s book ‘Grand Adventures’ so I can get started on planning my next adventure.
