Feeling a bit blue after the Christmas season?

Here are 5 ways to get you smiling again!

1.   Shake those hips!

Listening to music and dancing is a great way to put yourself in a better mood and lift your spirits. Whether at a party or in your living room, get your body moving to some fun, up-tempo music. Some of my favourites include Mary J Blige ‘Just Fine’, Wiz Kid ‘Don’t Dull’, Amy Winehouse ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’ and Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger’.

2.   Munch on some dark chocolate.

Research has shown that dark chocolate triggers the release of endorphins (also known as ‘happy hormones’) so a few squares whilst relaxing on the sofa can do you some good. But as always, everything in moderation!

3.   Get yapping!

Have you noticed that when you have a chat with a friend your blues seem to fade away? I especially love catching up with old friends and reminiscing about the good old days; it always seems to put a smile on my face!

4.   Sweat it out.

Doing exercise not only helps your body, it also helps the mind. By exercising, serotonin (a neurotransmitter linked to a heightened mood), is released, making you feel happier. (Now that explains why I always feel so good after running for (and catching) the bus!)

5.   Fake it till you make it, honey!

Even if you’re feeling blue, smile! Trick your brain into thinking you feel good and your thoughts will soon become visible in your demeanor!
