Heliot Steak House Review

helliot steak -1

We headed on down to Heliot steak house in The Hippodrome casino, last week to try out their new brunch menu. A meat lover’s dream, the menu encompasses a range of classic brunch dishes and the restaurant’s famed 28-day aged USDA prime steaks, topped off with an unrivalled Bloody Mary selection, created specially to kick start the weekend in style and complement the pancake stacks and meaty plates on offer.

One of the new beverages on offer is their newly created Green Mary (a twist on the Bloody Mary) containing green tomato juice, vodka and a homemade ‘Clear Mary Mix’ of course we had to give it a whirl, and I can report it’s one for the adventurous. We also ordered a glass of barolo ‘cascina nouva’ nebbiolo red wine, a nice smooth wine to complement our steaks to come. For the starter we had the crushed avocado with sun-dried tomato, rocket and herbs on granary toast, the avocado was fresh and marinated well, very impressive, I could have ordered another two.

Right time for the juicy bit, for the mains we ordered ordered the 7oz (200g) fillet and a 12oz (350g) rib eye steak both reasonably priced at £21. To accompany our main course, we ordered hand cut chips, fries, mixed salad and mac and cheese. They were generous portions and pleased that they were priced at a reasonable £3 each. Presentation was spot on and so were the flavours. A gorgeous medley of flavours which I really couldn’t fault. my medium-rare fillet was cooked perfectly, in fact I would go as far as saying mouth watering!

I can honestly say the fillet steak can possibly rival any other steakhouse in London and yes I’m looking at the most well known one ‘Gaucho’ right now, which has certainly ranked high among the team at On In London!

For dessert we opted for the 6 nutella pancake stack with caramelised hazelnuts. With chocolate and pancakes you can’t really go wrong, it satisfied our sweet tooth and was a great ending to a lovely dinner and dining experience.

The restaurant provided a unique experience for people watching you won’t get elsewhere. The casino also puts on some rather fab comedy and cabaret shows worth looking into as advised by our waiter. There is also a separate entrance to the restaurant, which is a new addition to make the entrance more welcoming to the public. Meat lovers, the fillet steak easily gets five stars, a real hats off to the chef!
