How to wear WHITE! Summer trends

All white

There’s been a white-out on the red carpet of late. Stars on and off-duty are choosing white as their colour of choice, from creamy tuxedo suits, to a white court shoe – it seems white is this summer’s hottest hue.

So how do you wear the ss13 white trend without coming over all ‘bride-like’?

Firstly don’t take the trend too literally. If you feel too self-conscious wearing all white, don’t do it. Fashion rules are made to be broken so find the ‘white’ or right look for you.

Mix Textures of White

Try a soft light white knit jumper over your shorts or a pair of white jeans or crops as a wearable, casual take on the look. As knit jumpers and slouchy tees are seen as relaxed wear, you won’t have the ‘look at me’ quality we all want to avoid, or just go for a pastel shade instead which will still look just as current.

A white tuxedo jacket, biker or Chanel-style jacket is something that I encourage everyone to try. You’ll be surprised how much wear you can get out of any jacket – no matter the colour – if the style suits you and works well for your lifestyle and outfits, I say go for it.

If you think you could get lots of wear from a white jacket this year you can go for the all white look by mixing it with white skinny jeans, cigarette or peg-style trousers and a white motif tee to dress down the look. You can also dress down a little white dress by adding the blazer to it which instantly makes it look more appropriate for the day

If you do decide to go for a white dress then go for a style that won’t look bridal. For example a short white dress looks cute and summery with a pastel blazer and not at all like your about to walk down the aisle. Also midi dresses are a great length and if you get one in a flattering jersey or t-shirt material it will look laid back and relaxed layered with a light white cardigan if you need the coverage. For white maxi dresses choose a style that’s very relaxed or if you are more daring why not a structured white gown for a special event. (Not a wedding though, think the bride will be slightly miffed).

Yes, white stilettos are back. To keep them chic wear them minimalistic, keep it nice, chic and simple, and don’t reveal too much boob or leg whilst doing so. My suggestion would be to opt for a cute pair of white loafers, brogues or pumps instead. Not only can they be worn with an all white look, but also look fresh and neat with denim as a replacement for last year’s nude pumps.
