Karma Sanctum Yoga Review

Monthly yoga brunch has just begun at Sanctum Hotel. I was tremendously excited about this new event and had been waiting (not so) patiently for it to arrive since I found out about it a couple of weeks ago. Everyone needs a little pampering and fitness so this was the perfect way to feel good about myself without overdoing it. That’s the last thing anyone wants, especially on a Sunday.

Picture this, walking into a dim lit room, incense burning and mats set up with a bottle of coconut water and a goody bag waiting for you to peek inside. Hopefully now you’re intrigued a little. Our instructor Katie spoke to us briefly about Vinyasa yoga, how it is all about the breath and flow of movements. This class is not mean to be straining. We were reminded that this is our class and we needed to listen to our bodies. This meant going at your own pace so whether it was your first class or 100th, everyone was welcome.

Most of the movements were pretty simple, balance however, depending on how coordinated you are. You might not think yoga is hard, but trust me you do feel muscles working (some which you may not have felt work for a long time). Yet with practice, core muscle strength and balance is something you will continue to build over time. Remembering to breathe through the movements can also be a little tricky. Surprisingly this is something easily forgotten when concentrating on the technique. Katie reassures everyone and reminds you not to get too overwhelmed with the movements and just give it a go. Remember Yoga is meant to be taken at your pace.

The end of the class is always a favourite of mine. Laying down on your back, eyes closed, relax and switching off for a few minutes. We tend to forget to just stop and take in our surroundings, thinking about the now. Katie was great at giving us the insight as to how we generally think, worry about the future, meetings, deadlines etc. We tend to forget about the present. Yoga for me, is a wonderful way to just stop, breathe and think about… nothing. This is not always an easy thing to do.

Brunch 2

Once the class is finished, we headed up to the rooftop and filled our bellies with delicious food. There was fruit platters, eggs, pancakes, as well as fresh Apple and orange juice and hot drinks to quench our thirsts.

Brunch 3

We made sure we packed our swimwear because if the Yoga and the brunch wasn’t enough to ensure make us feel revitalized, the dip in the Jacuzzi topped it off. Now that’s what I call a great start to my month and the best end to my weekend!  We really can’t thank the Sanctum Hotel and Katie enough. The staff are brilliant and really do assist you with anything you may require.
