Macellaio RC – Spritzeria Review

IMG_6356In the popular Exmouth Market is the old butcher shop, turned restaurant Macellaio RC. This popular restaurant has been serving great T-Bone steaks to customers for years, and has now launched its Spritzeria next door providing cocktails, wines and small plates perfect for the summer months. Upon entering the restaurant side, we were greeting with a smile and excellent service. We were moved into the Spritzeria which was buzzing for a Thursday evening and all the food and drinks are prepared in front of you while you wait.

We started with a couple of garlic bread slices each, which was a simple bread slice with some garlic, herbs and olive oil. A very nice start. Secondly, we were treated to some flatbread with pesto and traditional tomato sauce which was packed full of flavour. Our third plate showcased what the butchery had to offer with a few samples of the meats and I must say this was the standout of the evening. Three meat elements were on this plate – Prosciutto with parmesan that melted in the mouth and ticked all the boxes; a few slices of chorizo; and a cheese (similar to ricotta) encased in a sample of the famous Fassona beef which was just wow, wow, wow.

Lastly was flatbread with melted Stracchino cheese inside served with a jar of red peppers stuffed with tuna. I am not sure if we were meant to wrap the bread around the peppers and tuna, but it worked for us. All this delicious food was washed down with a couple of refreshing Aperol spritzes. Simplicity was the key with this food and all dishes were simple but great quality and freshness that was delicious. Roberto Costa’s second restaurant is a bit pricier than some, but when the quality of food is this high, I’m happy to pay a little extra. I will definitely return to Macellaio RC for a steak in the restaurant and I’m sure my work colleagues would enjoy a few Aperols and tapas during happy hour prior to a social night out.
