NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® Eclipse Review

img_3438

When I think coffee I always think Nescafé. It’s what my parents drank while I was growing up and what they still drink now. I’m not the biggest coffee drinker but I do love the smell of coffee brewing in the morning and a Cappuccino. I also love an Iced Coffee and a Hot Chocolate when the occasion calls for one. So when I was sent the new Nescafé Dulce Gusto Eclipse machine to review, I was looking forward to venturing deeper into the coffee world.

Let’s start with the new look design. It is funky and definitely one of the best looking coffee machines I’ve seen on the market. Sitting on my kitchen counter at home, the space age design really exudes class and style. It’s not hard to see why WILL.I.AM is the current spokesperson for this new model.

Having never used an automatic pod coffee machine before, especially one as fancy as the Eclipse, I did struggle initially on how to use it. I found the picture instructions included in the manual weren’t easy to follow and harder to read than instructions supplied by Ikea. My housemates and I had to rely on Google for help on what buttons to press and when. After the initial bit of a kafuffle trying to work out the instructions, it was time to make my first cup of coffee. My housemate selflessly offered to be the Guinea Pig for the first cup and drank the Latte Macchiato that was produced. I then made myself a Chococino. We were both so impressed with the flavours and how frothy both drinks were. Definitely café quality coffee made just by adding water, the pods and pressing a couple of buttons. I am so on board with this method. Another plus of this machine, was that it was quiet. It wasn’t completely silent but it was a lot quieter than other pod machines I’ve seen in action.

I enjoyed making my housemates and myself a cup using the machine so much, I ended up taking the machine to work the next day to get some more opinions from my work colleagues. It was definitely a lot easier to work the machine once I knew what was I was doing so my colleagues were treated to tasty skinny Cappuccinos and Mochas all day. Not one complaint was heard about the quality of the coffee and everyone that passed my desk couldn’t help but comment on the sleek design of the machine. The machine is now back where it belongs in my kitchen, though if my dad has his way it will be in his kitchen before too long.

Overall I’d recommend the new Nescafé Dolce Gusto Eclipse machine. It’s fun, stylish and practical. Having to put two pods for your more fancy coffee drinks such as the Mocha and Cappuccinos was a little fiddly. However, when you have a fancy coffee sitting in front of you in less than a minute, this is something that’s easily forgotten.

Nescafé have a large number of different flavour pods to suit everyone’s taste and I’m looking forward to trying out their selection of teas, specialty coffees and cold drinks. Cold drinks you say. Yes because not only does the Eclipse make hot drinks, it also makes cold drinks! I’ve never seen this in a coffee machine before and I don’t know whether it’s a new feature or a common one but I was impressed.

At £169.99, it’s priced a little higher than Nescafé older machines but not too expensive that it is not affordable. Especially when I no longer have to purchase a Cappuccino or a Mocha from a café when I get that craving because I can now look no further than my very own kitchen.

The Nescafé Dolce Gusto Eclipse is available to purchase online and will be available at all participating stores.
