Escapes

One Warwick Park Review

Escaping the hustle and bustle of London is always a pleasure on a Sunday afternoon so when we were invited to an overnight stay at One Warwick Park in Tunbridge Wells we couldn’t say no. The one hour journey to Kent is easily made from London Bridge Station and costs on £26 pounds return.

One Warwick Park is only a short stroll from Tubridge Wells Train Station. The manor like exterior, yet extremely modern interior is impressive and slightly awe inspiring.

IMG_3424Our first impression of the room was sheer amazement. The room was extremely luxurious with the King Size Bed looking extremely inviting. The bathroom was just as fabulous with its two-shower head shower/bath. An added bonus was the speakers in the bathroom as whatever was playing on the TV could be heard crystal clear in there. Perfect for when you don’t want to miss a second of your favourite TV show or movie.

IMG_3417While we could have spent ages relaxing in the room, Happy Hour was calling us before dinner. With two mojito’s costing only £8, we couldn’t resist ordering another two before Happy Hour finished. Our lovely bartender happily made us two strawberry mojitos while we drank our first drinks. These weren’t on the menu so it was added little treat which goes to show that One Warwick Park will go that extra mile to keep their guests happy.

IMG_3427Our three-course dinner for the evening (which is included in the room price), was at the hotel’s adjoining restaurant L’Amore. This restaurant is just as stunning as the hotel and the perfect location for couples to dine. Our waiter of the evening was extremely helpful and helped list the restaurants popular dishes and places to visit during our stay at One Warwick Park.

My friend and I both chose Grilled Tiger prawns marinated in chilli, garlic, oregano and lemon. These were both served with an extremely soft and delicious slice of bread that helped soak up some of the marinade from the prawns. My friend had to remind our waiter that he was coeliac but this quickly remedied with gluten free bread when we brought it to his attention. This is THE starter to have if dining at L’Amore as the marinade is something special. The prawns are large, fresh and bursting with flavour. We couldn’t have been happier.IMG_3434

For our mains, we chose the Sirloin steak (280g) with triple cooked chips and Italian salad and the 12 hour slow belly of pork cooked in almond milk, celeriac with sweet potato gratin and apple grappa jus. My friends steak was lovely though cooked Medium Rare rather than the Medium he’d ordered. My pork belly fell apart when cutting into it and was lovely with the sweet potato gratin and triple cooked chips I couldn’t resist ordering.IMG_3440Despite our bellies nearly bursting, we couldn’t leave without dessert and ordered the 4 Chocolate truffles White and dark chocolate with various flavours and OWP Eskimo bars Chocolate brownie & vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate with hot salted caramel sauce. My friend was still raving about the Chocolate Truffles the next morning over breakfast so they must have been fabulous. With my dessert, I could have died swimming happily in the hot salted caramel sauce. It was divine. The vanilla ice-cream was also fabulous but unfortunately the brownie portion of my Eskimo bars were a tad too frozen to eat.

IMG_3443 IMG_3444Before we went back to our room, we wandered down to the hotel’s gallery and checked out the artwork on display. One Warwick Park has really thought of everything and so this walkway through the gallery gives guests an undercover way back to hotel if the weather takes a turn for the worst.

Back in the room after dinner, we couldn’t resist watching TV in bed before calling it a night. The beds at One Warwick Park should be their selling point. Ours was so comfy and large that my friend and I slept like babies. Full disclose… If we ever end up sharing a bed, usually I’m the blankets hog and my friend hogs the bed. We didn’t have that problem with this King size bed at all.

Breakfast is included in the price of the hotel and the buffet breakfast, again at L’Amore was the perfect way to end our stay. Staff were extremely helpful in providing my friend with gluten free toast in the morning and getting our pots of tea ready while we were collecting our breakfast.

Staying at One Warwick Park was the perfect escape from London life so make sure you book a stay there at your next opportunity. You’ll leave feeling very refreshed and well rested. The staff are super friendly and the delightful Temple Spa Toiletries used throughout the hotel are simply gorgeous. Amazingly they’re available in full size bottles for purchase should you want to take a little bit of your stay home with you. With the town being filled with stunning parks and gardens, quaint cafés and charming galleries, furniture and jewellery stores, your stay is only going to be even more enjoyable. IMG_3457
