Plastic Fantastic

With Spring finally here, along with those delightful April showers, you will be happy to know that one of the up-and-coming trends does not only look cool, but is also highly practical to see you through the next few showery months. Yes, it’s plastic, ultra-modern and slightly kinky. The two phrases that sum up my next spring/summer 2013 trend. Plastic has sneaked onto the scene almost everywhere this season, from wet-look whites, to dramatic neon brights. I am absolutely in love with this seasons must have; it’s chic, modern and futuristic.

This trend reminds me of my child hood, who remembers those jelly shoes? I’m sure we all had them and loved them with a passion. Well think of this trend as the same thing. However this trend is not just jelly shoes, its jelly coats, dresses, bags and macs you name it. The glossier the finish, the better as far I’m concerned. What I like about this style is that it comes in a variety of ‘ways to wear’. For the bold; a bright blue Holly Fulton jacket, for the not so bold you can get a simple perspex heeled shoe from ASOS.

Now I know some of you are thinking, plastic clothing sounds vile right? This trend is not for the faint hearted.  However, with this trend, less is definitely more. The spring/summer collections saw many designers inter-mixing the plastic material with girly dresses and skirts.  Simone Rocha led the way on this trend, incorporating perspex accessories in neon colours, alongside her pretty feminine collection.

A statement necklace made of bright plastic, or even a clear perspex heel is enough to give that outfit an edgy up to date look. It’s a trend we should all try, can’t wait for plastic to be let loose on the high streets.
