Soul Kitchen: Review

How to make sushi

Last Wednesday ONIN were invited to the Soul Kitchen Sushi Supper club. So I gladly volunteered as I love sushi. To be honest i didn’t know what to expect, I thought it was going to be a night filled with loads of sushi and some saki. I arrived in Hoxton and walked down an alleyway with apartment buildings, at first I assumed I had the wrong address. But I knocked on the door and was welcomed by one of the hosts for the evening. The apartment was a trendy downstairs flat and we were based on the floor of the open plan kitchen, sat at a mocked up Japanese floor table.

I was dining with the three hosts, my guest and several couples and the atmosphere was electric, plus the cocktails were pretty good. When we were told by the hosts that we were making our own sushi, I was shocked as I was hoping just to be fed. But I am really glad it was a do it yourself session, as it was the best sushi I have ever tasted hands down. We were taught how to make normal sushi rolls and the amazing California rolls, to say it got messy was an understatement.

Soul Kitchen
The beauty of the night was that everyone connected, as we laughed and joked about our sushi making skills and shared what we made with other guests. It was like being in a room full of friends. A perfect night. Soul kitchen was started by three friends from Europe (the cocktails made me forget where). They came to London and realised it was really hard to meet new people so set up various nights in their living room, so they can meet people and network.

Their website best describes them as:

Soul Kitchen is a new venue in London for people who want to experience the traditional sleepover party with the intelligent and classy flavour. It is a place with the unique atmosphere to bring out the best in people.

It is a loft based space for people that are invited to share cocktails, food, stories, watch movies together and much more until late at night. During the whole night magic happens – great music, movies, and intellectual discussions to spark the inspiration and creativity.

During their stay guests share ideas, solve their problems in the creative way, draw, inspire and get inspired. Locals mix with the travellers, stay up all night or go to sleep early – everyone has their space in Soul Kitchen.

I recommend you attend one of their nights, it was the best supper club I’ve been too and I officially can no longer eat prepacked sushi as I’ve tasted the good stuff now.

Here are the details of their next event:

EVENT: BBQ Party. City Getaway to Grantchester Meadows

Visiting a place where David Gilmour lived and got inspired. We will seek inspiration together with the good people on our way there, cook delicious BBQ, drink and enjoy the bits of Summer that is leaving us slowly.

Exploring Cambridge, boating and drinking, visiting chalk fields that seem to look like the surface of the moon, having a BBQ party – these and much more soul refreshing activities will be involved in our scattered slow Saturday schedule.

We will pick you up at 10am from Liverpool Street Station. During the trip to the meadows we will drop by some of the most famous, stunning English villages and other amazing places in order not to get too tired from the trip, but only the opposite. Back after the sun is gone and there are no further ideas from anyone.

Join us and our friends to this amazing psychedelic experience of feeling the vibes in the gorgeous Grantchester Meadows.
