A shopping street just off Oxford Street and adjacent to the Bond Street station shopping centre became a little bit of Barbados (minus the good weather) on the   weekend, courtesy of visitbarbarbados.org.We tried some very (almost dangerously) drinkable Mount Gay Rum cocktails. I’m not normally a rum bloke but this one goes well with ginger ale, and also worked surprisingly well in a new twist on the Old Fashioned. Rum was very much available throughout with mixology classes, tastings, and masterclasses. This was soaked up with lots of food from Barbados by Chefs AC and Jason Howard, and an Iron Chef cook-off on the Sunday. There was a dedicated marquee for kids activities such as face-painting and drawing

At the main stage, a big crowd had gathered and were enjoying ‘Arturo Tappin & Band Calypso and R&B’ on the Friday evening. There was also a looong queue to play on the BA flight simulator but the people who had made it to the front looked like they were having a great time.nakitaThis was a great free event with a good mix of events and activities along the street, so if there’s something specific you’re after look up the schedule of events and drop in, or feel free to take a detour when you’re in this end of town. As it was very close to the tube station and runs the whole weekend it’s very easy to build into a trip to the West End. The organizers say they hope to be back next year.
