The Elgin: Review

A stone throw away from Ladbroke Grove Station is probably one London’s best kept pub secrets. The Elgin is what we call a hidden gem; it has a rich and vibrant history and is situated in the easiest to get to location. The pub has an amazing outdoor area and inside there’s a genuine British pub feel. Though if you fancy a quiet meal, there is privacy in the dining area. The Elgin is renowned for its Gins with more Gin choices that you can shake your hat at. We suggest trying the array of British Gin’s on offer at the pub.

The Elgin main bar-66

Rather than have a gin, we heard about the amazing food served at the restaurant and decided to head down to taste for ourselves. It was lovely walking into the pub, we were treated with smiles and warmth by the staff and the locals were pretty friendly too. Atmosphere is everything when you walk into somewhere and for us it was instant relaxation.

The menu was amazing! I had tried for my starters the Cornish crab cocktail with avocado and Nutbourne nursery tomato relish. The dish was amazing, the only health warning is there are shells inside. I nearly cracked a tooth, but it didn’t stop me eating my food (no harm done). My friend tried the smoke salmon and spinach tart with crème fraiche. I was so into my crab cocktail I forgot to try her tart, but her clean plate spoke a million words.

The Elgin Notting Hill - El Gin Bar

For my main I tried the marinated lamb chops with grilled baby gem and new potatoes and a green sauce (I cannot remember what it was, but it was yummy!). My friend ate the cider glazed pork rib eye, sautéed potatoes and apple slaw, she smiled all the way through her meal and kept saying how amazing it was. Should we take that as her dish was pretty amazing?

Now on to the dessert, I have been on the hunt for London’s best sticky toffee pudding (drum roll please) I think I may have found it. The sticky toffee pudding was served at the perfect temperature with warm toffee butterscotch sauce and a dollop of vanilla ice cream. Oh my days I was in sticky toffee heaven!! I mean I love stick toffee pudding and this was by far the best I have tasted in a while and you can tell it was made freshly in the kitchen.

All in all we had an amazing time at The Elgin, great food, great staff, great vibes and great drink. Make sure you try it for yourself!
