I am a CIRCUS MUM…

I’m Circus Mum, sometimes known as Princess’ mum or plain old Tinuke. Blogging started off as a nice creative outflow to stop me from doodling on my desk or nagging The King (my partner in crime) too much with all my chatter. A couple of years later, I’m still here, still using the blog as a very cheap form of therapy but also using it for so much more!

When I was pregnant with Princess, I found myself using Google for everything. Should I be feeling my baby kick yet? How much raspberry leaf tea is too much? Is the baby’s umbilical cord supposed to look like this? You name it, I Googled it. The majority of links Google directed me to were either pages on Netmums.com who’s forums were an immense source of information, or in a lot of cases, I was directed to other mother’s blogs! This was my first introduction to the world of blogging and in turn gave me a deeper sense of social networking. I wish I’d been into Twitter and started blogging when I was up at 3am doing night feeds and changing explosive nappies! Having someone to chat to when the rest of your friends or family are asleep is brilliant! That’s a great thing about it, you make friends in all timezones!

Through bloggers you are able to hear first hand accounts of parents’ experiences with everything from the day to day to the outright crazy. You have an instant support network of parents / fashionistas / car enthusiasts who you can rely on for honest opinions, advise and in some cases just a shoulder to (cyber)cry on. I try to be honest and speak with my true voice at all times as I want what I say to be taken with the same pinch of salt you would do if you were speaking to me in person. I think the majority of bloggers out there try to do the same. You can trust their opinions and recommendations in the same way you would that of a friend you’ve known for ages who checks your teeth for spinach and lets you know when you need a mint.

I am a parent so I guess I write about ‘parent stuff’ right? Well yes and no. I am a mother, so I may talk about developmental milestones, sassy things Princess says or the latest Disney Pixar film. But anyone who is a parent knows that what makes you unique; your likes, quirks, passions etc do not fail to exist once you bring a baby into the mix. If you were expecting me to be all Annabel Karmel you may be in for a shock, but if you want a frank retrospect of the life of someone who is also a career juggling parent, who is slightly food obsessed, has some love handles to lose and has a penchant for films and visiting new places with the family, you’ve hit the right spot!

Well, that’s my story into why I blog and what to expect from me. I write about parenting, warts and all. I look forward to getting to know you and sharing in the lumpy bumpy road of parenting!
