Mercer Roof Terrace Review

The sun is out, and everyone is looking for the best rooftop to flock to for a drink and a bite to eat, so add Mercer Roof Terrace (atop Vintry & Mercer) to your list. With views of The Shard and St Paul’s Cathedral, it is a calm oasis in the middle of the city.

We visited on a weekday lunch and it was really peaceful, plus the sun was shining – which is always an added bonus. First thing we did was order drinks: a Gin Fizz for me and a non-alcoholic Ananas Comosus for him.

All the starters and nibbles sounded perfectly light for spring/summer, so we decided to share lightly tempura battered Wye Valley Asparagus, Hereford beef tartare and Cornish crab croquettes. The perfect picky bits to start….

For mains, we were also spoiled for choice. I ordered the Charcoal seared tuna (without squid ragu) and a side of Jersey Royal potatoes with wild garlic and lemon butter. The charcoal flavour on the tuna was a bit too strong for me but oh em gee, I could’ve eaten buckets of those potatoes! I also tried a bite of his Salt Marsh spring lamb rump, served with courgettes, a sweet potato terrine and a lamb sauce and it was delicious.

The team had been told that it was my birthday before we visited, so they very kindly decorated a plate with some chocolate and ice cream, so I tucked into that while my OH had a Clementine crêpe suzette.

I know the weather this weekend isn’t meant to be as nice as it has been, but Mercer Roof Terrace also has a covered area and heaters, so is perfect for an unpredictable British spring and summer!
