New Residence: Joe Lippman Takes Fire at Big Night
East London dining favourite Big Night enters a new chapter, welcoming Joe Lippman for a three-month residency that introduces a refined, produce-led menu built around fire, balance and late-night energy.
Known for its seasonal skewers, house-made ferments and social atmosphere, Big Night has become a go-to for those seeking delicious, affordable food without the fuss. Now, the Morning Lane spot is turning things up.
Lippman’s residency introduces a new menu that pairs raw and lightly cured dishes with open-fire cooking, focusing on simplicity of flavour and standout ingredients. Highlights include Porthilly oysters with blue rhubarb, wild bass crudo with tomato ponzu and yuzu oil, and octopus carpaccio with lemon, shallot and shiso, alongside richer, comfort-leaning plates. Big Night favourites, including the signature pork skewer and grilled hispi cabbage with seaweed and lime butter, remain in place.
With 17 years of experience, Lippman brings a refined yet playful approach to the kitchen. He has played a key role in shaping Cornwall’s reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting dining destinations, having run Duchy Grub, praised by the Michelin Guide and collaborated with several of the region’s most respected kitchens.
Running for a limited three-month period, the residency captures Big Night at its best: seasonal, considered food served late, built for sharing and long nights at the table.
The refreshed menu sits comfortably alongside Big Night’s core ethos of open-fire cooking, ferments and a relaxed, communal atmosphere. Expect grilled sourdough, thoughtful small plates, and food designed to be eaten well into the evening.
