Burning Rose Re-opens with Fresh Flavours in Balham

Since first opening its doors on Chestnut Grove in April 2021, Burning Rose has quietly built a loyal local following—and now, the beloved Balham Thai restaurant is back with a refreshed look, an exciting new menu, and an enticing offer for diners. Just seconds from Balham tube station – and luckily in home delivery distance for me (!) – this laid-back gem offers a front row seat to the kitchen’s theatre: take a perch at the long bar and watch as sizzling, aromatic dishes are freshly prepared right before your eyes.

The space is minimalist and intimate, drawing your focus to the food and the buzzing energy of the open kitchen. The new-look menu at Burning Thai is both adventurous and authentic, with variations of traditional Thai Boat Noodle Soup and the irresistibly crisp Hat Yai Fried Chicken joining their already well-loved favourites. For those loyal to the classics, the Royal Massaman Beef Curry and Pad Thai remain firm fixtures—and rightly so.

During our visit, we sampled a delicious selection that showcased the kitchen’s range and authenticity. The Pad Krapow delivered a fiery, fragrant hit of holy basil and chili, balanced by tender minced meat and a perfectly fried egg. The prawn noodles were equally impressive—light yet indulgent, packed with juicy prawns and a smoky wok hei aroma that’s difficult to fake. Crispy spring rolls, golden and fresh, made the perfect starter, while the special cod dish was a real highlight: delicately spiced, flaking beautifully, and topped with fresh herbs that lifted every bite.

With its refreshed menu, Burning Rose is striking a fine balance between tradition and innovation, delivering bold, authentic Thai cuisine in a welcoming, unpretentious setting. Open 5 days a week from 12pm to 9pm, it’s an ideal dinner spot whether you’re catching up with friends or looking for a solo bite at the bar.
