cloudM at citizenM Tower of London Launches New Cocktail Menu
CloudM, the panoramic rooftop bar situated on the top floor of citizenM Tower of London, launched their brand-new cocktail menu last night inspired by artworks within the hotel.
CloudM is on located on the 7th floor of CitizenM Tower of London, which has over 300 rooms. it’s right next door to Tower Hill Underground. Walking into the reception space the first thing I noticed was all the shelving with books, plants, and various items celebrating a variety of cultures. The eye is also drawn to the black and white photo wallpaper. This theme continues upstairs at Cloud M. There’s double height ceilings and chrome chandeliers in glass boxes. The light wooden bookshelves contain books and artworks and separate the bar area into different sections. There’s a mix of sofas and chairs or bench seating. It’s a beautiful space that never felt crowded.
You’ll be blown away by the view. There’s floor to ceiling windows along two sides meaning wherever you sit there’ll be a view of the skyline. There’s also a terrace though the only seating was metal benches. I was fortunate to get a corner view inside on comfy seating and spent most of the evening looking over at the Tower of London. It’s one of my favourite buildings in London but what made it more special last night was seeing ‘Poppy Fields’, the Tower’s light show to commemorate Armistice Day actually on the day itself. Given there was a DJ and lots of chatter, I actually felt really peaceful looking at the Tower, remembering those who lost their lives whilst appreciating that I was having beautiful cocktails.
The hero cocktail, designed in collaboration with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, celebrates the complexity of the spirit. This cocktail, the Queen Bea, is inspired by Andy Warhol’s ‘Reigning Queens’ portrait of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands which can be seen at cloudM. Aside from Tito’s Handmade Vodka, the Queen Bea features St Germaine elderflower liqueur, triple sec, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, vanilla, lemon grass syrup and has pink edible glitter. This was a fun, light cocktail yet felt so sophisticated.
‘Untitled’ by Warren Neidich was the inspiration for Horizon Swell. This artwork is at Citizen M Bankside so unfortunately we could not see it but were told it’s a piece that transforms Malibu’s surfers into a surreal vision of colour and light. It mixes Doorly’s Three Year Old White Barbados Rum, with apple sauce, vanilla and count syrup, fresh pineapple and Tiki Bitters. This was a fruity yet punchy highball.
Reading the ingredients of the third cocktail, I was unsure how lemon curd would work. I was surprised when this turned out to be my favourite one of the night so, of course, I had to go back for seconds to be sure. This Lemon Cowboy 2 comprises Bacardi spiced rum, Drambuie liqueur, caramel syrup, lemon juice and lemon curd. It takes is name from the painting ‘Cowboy 2’ by Daniel Van Staalen, located at Citizen M Tower Hill. I enjoyed the contrast between tart and spice.
CloudM also do mocktails but overhead someone ask for one and the knowledgeable bartender suggested The Earl Raspberry which combines earl grey, raspberry and ginger beer.
CloudM As the festive season approaches, cloudM is a great spot to host a party with friends or work colleagues.
