House of Ming Review

When I think of Chinese food, I usually think of my local takeaway on a cold and rainy Sunday, so I was excited to be invited to House of Ming; to try something a little bit different.

House of Ming is located near St James’ Park station and is inside St James’ Court, A Taj Hotel – so I already knew my experience would be a bit different to my local Chinese restaurant.

The first thing that struck me was the extensive food menu. I’m used to be overwhelmed by choice at a Chine restaurant, but here I genuinely couldn’t choose! Fortunately, the staff were really helpful at offering advice and recommendations for some of their favourite dishes.

To start, we couldn’t resist some of their Dim Sum, so ordered Pan Fried Chicken Dumplings, which were full of succulent chicken and a side of Crispy Spinach, lightly fried with almond flakes and garlic.

And it wouldn’t be a visit to a Chinese restaurant without Crispy Duck….We tried the Half Crispy Duck and omg, it was perfect. It was served up in a silver dome and was shredded and cut into perfect sizes for each pancake.

By the time our main course arrived, I was filling up, so I’m glad we decided to only order a couple of dishes to share. First up was the Kung Pao Chicken, served with Sichuan Chilli Bean, Peppercorn, Vinegar, Roasted Cashew Nut. We order this with a side of Egg Fried Rice and Chicken Hakka Noodles; which were light and not at all greasy.

Overall, I was so impressed by the food and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a slightly smarter Chinese restaurant; either for a business meal or an occasion. The decor was beautiful and the staff were so helpful!
