Japanese Food Hall: Ichiba

If you want to experience Japanese food culture but short of the airfare to Japan? No need to fret, Ichiba, Europe’s largest Japanese food hall opened their doors in Westfield, White City last month.

At Ichiba you will find a food hall with shelves packed full of Japanese treats, from food to sake to confectionary and handmade ceramics. Which means you can pick up the finest bottle of sake, a ceramic flask and a couple of ceramic sake cups to get the full Japanese drinking experience anywhere you go.

You will also find theatrical food stations, where you can see chefs prepare and cook food, along with sake tastings and cooking demonstrations. You will expect to find noodles, sushi, katusu curries and ramen. They are well stocked and will have something to cater for everyone. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, make sure you swing by the traditional Japanese bakery, where you can get your hands on dorayaki pancakes, mochi balls and matcha lattes.

We headed on over to Ichiba last weekend to see what was on offer, we picked up some sushi, gyoza, buns, mochi and pancakes. As we tucked into this good Japanese fast food in the very vibrant and buzzy Ichiba, we couldn’t help think that there should be more places like this. We just hope Ichiba expands and we get to see one open up in East London!

At Ichiba you get to shop, dine in, drink sake, east delicious traditional Japanese desserts and discover something new, what more could you possibly ask for?
