Kopi Is Gen Z’s Drink Of Choice For Nights Out

The global party scene is undergoing a major reboot, and this time, it’s all about caffeine, not cocktails. Ditching traditional alcohol-fuelled nights, Gen Z is establishing a nightlife renaissance grounded in wellness and connection.

Soft clubbing is a TikTok fuelled trend that’s rapidly replacing the typical night out with coffee day raves and sober clubbing experiences. Held in venues like rooftops and galleries, these alcohol-free events are redefining what it means to go out. According to Eventbrite, coffee clubbing events have surged by 478%, thermal gatherings are up 256%, and morning dance parties have grown 20%, signalling a global appetite for more mindful and health-conscious ways to party.

Embracing this movement is Singapore – powered by its vibrant local coffee culture. Affectionately referred to by locals as “Kopi”, the Singaporean version of coffee is a thick, creamy, and boldly sweet brew made from robusta beans, condensed milk and sugar. It is one of the country’s most widely consumed drinks. Traditionally a morning staple, it now accounts for over 70% of all coffee consumed in Singapore, with locals drinking around 15,000 metric tons every year.

First created in the 1900s, kopi remains a daily ritual across generations. With at least 54 variations such as kopi O (with sugar, no milk), kopi c (with evaporated milk and sugar), and kopi siew dai (less sugar), it’s a brew that caters to every taste. With its unique flavour and natural energy, Singapore’s kopi provides a caffeine-powered alternative to alcohol.

Now kopi has made its way to London. Head to Singapulah in Soho if you fancy trying it.
