Sunday’s at Lass O’ Richmond Hill

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Lass O’ in Richmond Hill for their Sunday Lunch, and it was a truly delightful experience.

From the moment I stepped into the pub, I could sense the welcoming atmosphere. It was cosy, with a friendly buzz filling the air, yet still intimate enough to feel like a personal experience. As an added bonus, the pub is dog-friendly, which made it all the more appealing as the place was jam packed with cute pups. I can already imagine how lovely the outdoor garden will be in the summer—it’s spacious and beautifully laid out, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a sunny Sunday.

Now, let’s talk about the food, which was undeniably the highlight of the visit. I started with the beetroot and walnut salad, a light but flavourful dish that was the perfectly seasonal and delicious. The earthy sweetness of the beetroot paired beautifully with the crunch of the walnuts, and the dressing had just the right balance of acidity and richness. It was a refreshing way to begin the meal and set the tone for the rest of the courses.

My friend went for the ham terrine, which was equally impressive. The terrine was rich, tender, and packed with flavour. The subtle hints of herbs were a perfect complement to the ham, and it was beautifully presented with a delicate serving of pickles that added a nice contrast.

For the main course, we opted for the roast pork belly and roast beef, and it was an absolute indulgence. The pork belly was cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness on the inside. The crackling was deliciously crunchy, and the meat was juicy. The roast beef was equally impressive, with a beautifully pink middle and a rich, meaty flavour that paired wonderfully with the accompanying gravy. Each was served with fresh seasonal vegetables including cabbage, suede and perfectly crisp roasties.

I also ordered a side of cauliflower cheese, which was creamy, rich, and cheesy with a slight crisp on top that added a delightful texture. The giant pig in a blanket was a perfect indulgent addition, with the sausages wrapped in crispy, salty bacon.

Overall, Lass O’s Sunday Lunch was a feast. Every dish, from the starters to the main course, was expertly prepared, with each component showcasing quality ingredients and attention to detail. The portion sizes were generous, and I left the table feeling fully satisfied but not overwhelmingly full—a perfect balance for a Sunday afternoon. When speaking to the chef he said that they aim to highlight the larder of the British Isles, proudly championing the dedicated farmers, artisans, and producers who bestow their meticulously crafted treasures for their tables.

The pub itself exudes a cosy, warm atmosphere, with a vibrant buzz that made it feel like a true community gathering spot. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall welcoming experience. I particularly look forward to returning in the summer, when the garden will undoubtedly provide a lovely setting for enjoying a leisurely Sunday lunch.

I highly recommend Lasso in Richmond Hill for anyone looking to enjoy a top-notch Sunday Lunch. It’s a good walk from Richmond station which is the perfect way to build up your appetite. Whether you’re a local or just visiting the area, this charming pub offers excellent food, a warm atmosphere, and a dog-friendly environment that makes it the perfect place to unwind and indulge.
