Magic Momo at Nam Long

Magic Momo, the exciting new culinary venture by the talented Daisy Beale, has taken over the kitchen at Nam Long, an iconic institution in Chelsea. This bold move has sparked a culinary renaissance in the area, reinforcing Chelsea’s status as one of London’s coolest dining destinations. Since its inception in 2022, Magic Momo has made waves with a fresh, vibrant menu that combines Thai and Indian flavours in innovative ways. Daisy, with over a decade of experience leading a fusion restaurant in Ko Phayam, Thailand, brings a deep understanding of heritage and flavour, infusing every dish with her expert flair, creativity and passion.

At Nam Long, Daisy’s menu has already proven to be a hit. The offerings are fun, fresh, and full of textures that make each dish a delight to the senses. From punchy salads to indulgent dumplings, every bite feels exciting and new, with a balance of vibrant flavours that immediately draw you in. The Green Mango Salad on crispy rice with flaked sea bass is an absolute standout, offering a zesty, refreshing start to the meal. The combination of the sharpness of the mango and the crispiness of the rice creates a brilliant contrast in both texture and taste.

Another highlight from the menu for me was the Soft Shell Crab, which is served with puffed rice, pickled kumquat, and a tangy mango and passionfruit sauce. The crab is light, crispy, and perfectly complemented by the sweetness and acidity of the accompanying ingredients, creating a dish that is both playful and satisfying. Equally impressive is the Dumpling Salad, which features smacked cucumber, datterini tomatoes, crispy garlic, and a punchy nuoc cham dressing. The fresh, tangy elements pair beautifully with the richness of the dumplings, making this a must-try for anyone visiting.

For those who crave a heartier main, the Mushroom & Truffle Momos, drizzled with house chilli oil and soy tahini, are a showstopper. The earthy flavours of the mushrooms and the luxurious truffle oil are enhanced by the rich, spicy chilli oil, making each momo burst with incredible flavours. The Kaffir Lime & Prawn Dumplings are another excellent choice, with the zesty lime providing a refreshing contrast to the rich, succulent prawns.

The Chargrilled Sirloin Steak with tamarind chilli dressing deserves special mention as well. Tender and cooked to perfection, the steak is paired with a tangy and slightly spicy dressing that elevates the dish with layers of flavour. The balance of savoury, sweet, and sour in the dressing is a perfect match for the juicy steak.

For dessert, the Ube Panna Cotta with Alphonso Mango is a vibrant, indulgent finish to the meal. The creamy, smooth panna cotta is complemented by the sweet, fragrant mango, creating a lovely balance of textures and flavors.

The cocktails at Nam Long are just as impressive as the food – and legendary in fact. Word has it this spot was a top destination for the royals to let their hair down. Each drink is expertly crafted and pairs beautifully with the dishes. Whether you’re sipping on a refreshing gin and tonic or enjoying a more exotic concoction, the cocktails enhance the overall dining experience.

Magic Momo’s residency at Nam Long is a true triumph, with Daisy Beale’s expertise shining through in every dish. The menu is packed with fresh, bold flavours and textures, making it a must-visit destination for anyone in Chelsea looking for something exciting and delicious.
