Review: Pizza Union
Recently I went to Pizza Union’s restaurant seconds from Kings Cross on Pentonville Road.
The open-plan seating makes for a spacious and sociable atmosphere and you have a great view of the passers-by if you’re a people watcher like I. It was busy but didn’t feel crowded and was the perfect tonic to the heat-crazed madness of everyday London life.
The thin-pan, crispy pizzas are made in a few minutes and you’re given a buzzer to signify when they’re ready. My friend and I both went for the Calabria, which included mozzarella, mascarpone, rocket and N’duja spicy sausage. The spicy sausage wasn’t in traditional sausage form, it had been de-sausaged so to speak and was spread out in sections of the pizza. This was exceptionally tasty as was the rest of the pizza.
We washed it down with a lovely drop of Birra Moretti and had a Classico Dolce after. This is a warm dough ring stuffed with oozing Nutella and mascarpone. This was just as delicious as the pizza and went down a treat.
For central London this is amazing value. The pizzas at £5.95 are a snip and the customer service was friendly, efficient and passionate. Did I mention the olives were brilliant too?
I’d highly recommend this classy, tasty and affordable pizza joint.
