Shoryu Ramen Review

Ramen has become increasingly popular over the last few years and if you’ve tasted it, you will know why. Ramen is healthy, hot, delicious and perfect for cold Winter nights. We visited the Shoryu Ramen branch in Shoreditch on Great Eastern street which only opened last month. Now, Shoreditch is not shy of great restaurants, so when we arrived and saw a queue at the door, we nodded at each other in confirmation that this was a good sign.

We were eventually seated and our waitress came over with the menus, oh my what a menu it was. Packed full of ramen and side dishes, I mean where do you start? We decided one of us would opt for the Ramen and the other would order a load of side dishes to share.

My guest went for the White Natural, which was one of the vegetarian ramens, they also give you the option of having gluten free noodles, which is great for those like both me and my friend who prefer gluten free food. The noodles came in a delicious konbu & shiitake broth along with tofu, nori seaweed, tofu and kikurage mushrooms – it certainly was a big bowl of goodness and a generous one at that.

I opted for the chicken shoryn buns, the soft, fluffy buns came with soy marinated chicken and were by far my favourite dish of the night, marinated perfectly, with crispy coating. I would have happily just eaten shoryn buns all night. Another great dish were the Hakata Tetsunable gyoza’s. We went for the six pieces option, as we are both big fans of gyoza. They didn’t disappoint, tender, bursting with flavour and served at the right temperature.

The wakame seaweed salad, the cumber dish and the Japanese potato salad, were healthy dishes that complemented the gyoza and shoryn buns nicely. Not forgetting the sake…

We were very full at this point, so decided to have a desert to share. We went for the Sakura & Azuki Chiffon Cake, which came with cherry coulis. The cake was nice and moist and sorted out my sugar craving nicely. Other desserts on the menu include cheesecakes, ice cream and sorbet, a nice selection to cure your sugar craving after a healthy, nutritional Japanese meal.
