The Brown Cow in Fulham Review
The Brown Cow in Fulham is set to become SW6’s new social hub. Following a refurbishment, they reopened on 16th June with a new look and taste.
There’s now an all-day menu celebrating seasonality and local quality ingredients. Breakfast and brunch includes coffees, smoothies, breakfast tacos, buttermilk waffles and Bloody Mary’s. Light lunches include items such as Grilled Summer Courgette with Isle of Wight tomatoes and burrata. Evening dishes include burgers, steaks, pastas, salads, and blackboard specials.
Whilst perusing the menu, we sampled marinated gordal olives (£4.95) with Hobbs house focaccia (£4.50). My friend and I love trying food at new restaurants. We’ve been focusing on seafood the last few months, so we opted for an entree of salt and pepper calamari with vietnamese style dipping sauce, chilli and lime (£8.95). It’s difficult to cook calamari without being chewy but this was cooked perfectly with a light batter.
We shared the brixham crab linguine. This is comprised of samphire, preserved lemon, brown crab and chilli butter, pangrita for £22. The chilli gave it a great kick. Following this, we shared two meat dishes and a side of fried new potatoes with chipotle sour cream (£5.75). The baby back ribs with korean ssamjang glaze, bbq sweet potato, kimchi slaw and sesame (£24) were sticky but less messy than other ribs. The plating was vibrant and colourful with the purple shaw, orange sweet potatoes, red chillies and green herbs.
We also had one of the blackboard specials- picanah. My friend and I loved this so much in Brazil last year that as soon as we saw it we knew we must have it. It was tender, juicy and full of flavour. The peppercorn sauce was a little too thick for our preferences. We really enjoyed reminiscing about our trip whilst eating one of Brazil’s favourite cuts of beef.
Despite being full, we were cajoled into trying the tiramisu. As it’s only served in a sharing size, it was perfect for two (£12). When I asked for recommendation for a pairing drink there was no hesitation in the reply. I’m not the biggest Negroni fan but I really enjoyed the pairing as it bought out the flavours.
There’s over a dozen cocktails on the menu (£11.95 each). I had the Mirabeau spritz comprised of Mirabeau gin, pink grapefruit juice, lime juice, vanilla syrup and elderflower tonic water. This was light and fruity, and a good way to start the weekend. My friend had the passion fruit martini which combines Ketel one vodka, passion fruit puree, lime juice and Prosecco. My friend liked that the Prosecco came on the side so she could add to her preference.
We loved the renovations. There’s stool seating along the bar with the dining area featuring booths or table and chairs. We were sat in a semi-circular booth with a large window overlooking the footpath. Light wooden floors, dark wooden chairs and tables, brown upholstery, and green splashes give the place an earthy feel. Combined with flower patterned cushions and plants it’s a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
