A Night of Elegance at The Clermont Hotel, Victoria

In the bustling heart of London, tucked neatly beside Victoria Station, lies a hotel that strikes an impressive balance between grandeur and comfort, The Clermont Hotel, Victoria. This historic landmark, once known as The Grosvenor, has been tastefully restored and reimagined for the modern traveller while retaining the romanticism of its Victorian past. My recent stay in one of its suites was not just a night at a hotel, it was a full sensory experience marked by luxury, convenience, and a quiet kind of magic that’s extremely hard to find in central London – particularly a transport hub!

From the moment I stepped into the suite, I was blown away by the elegance and sense of space – a rarity when you live in a tiny flat in the city. There were high ceilings, rich textures, and tasteful renovations highlighting the hotel’s heritage without feeling outdated. There was a calmness to the room, as though it had been designed to help you immediately leave the noise of the world behind in soundproofed luxury.

The room was beautifully lit, with generous floor to ceiling windows allowing the daylight to pour in, while the thoughtful layout included distinct areas for relaxation, work, and sleep. The bed was plush and inviting, with crisp linens and a softness that practically pulled you into rest. As someone sensitive to noise, I was amazed at how quiet the suite was.

The history of The Clermont is clear in its architectural details – ornate moldings, sweeping staircases, and old-world charm at every turn. Yet, everything about the suite was designed for contemporary comfort. The mini-bar was impressively stocked, with generous options and thoughtful extras that felt more curated than commercial.

Perhaps the key feature of the room, beyond the comfy bed, was the deep bath. After a long day, sinking into a warm soak in such an elegant tub was a luxurious pleasure. The bathroom itself was pristine, marble-clad, and accented with indulgent toiletries that added to the sense of escape.

Dinner that evening was at The Soak, the hotel’s standout restaurant. Its atmosphere was lively yet composed, blending urban sophistication with subtle nods to Asian minimalism in its decor. The menu revealed a culinary identity that is decidedly Asian-inspired, and it delivered authentically.

I sampled a wide selection of small plates and dim sum, each one delicious. The Prawn Har Gau were delicate, filled with tender prawns and paired with a tasty dipping sauce. The Chicken and Chive Dumplings brought savoury richness, while the vegetable spring rolls added a welcome crunch and brightness. I love Asian food and this place really impressed.

Of all the dishes, my favourite was the Sesame Prawn Toast – not the greasy version found in takeaways, but a refined, elevated take that was crisp, layered, and generously topped. The Padron Peppers are also a must-order and the cocktails are all suitably Asian-inspired too. I’d definitely recommend the Lychee Martini.

Service was friendly and swift, but never rushed and the team were friendly and chatty. I was dining solo so that’s always a nice touch.

Back in the suite, the night passed with uninterrupted sleep, a real luxury in any city hotel. The bed offered the ideal combination of softness and support, and the blackout curtains made it easy to forget you were in the heart of London. I woke up feeling surprisingly refreshed, something I rarely say after a night away from home.

The morning was equally smooth. The bathroom lighting made getting ready a pleasure rather than a chore, and the proximity to Victoria Station meant I was able to get to work easily. I actually made the most of the balmy weather and walked into central London conveniently, passed Buckingham Palace.

The Clermont’s location is one of its biggest assets. Whether you’re traveling into London from elsewhere or simply navigating the city, the hotel’s spot right next to Victoria Station is unbeatable. But unlike many hotels in such central, transport-oriented locations, The Clermont is surprisingly tranquil, shielded from the chaos by its stately design and carefully planned interiors.

For business travellers, it’s an effortless choice and for leisure travellers, it offers a jumping-off point for Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Soho or even a jaunt to the West End. Everything is on your doorstep!
