Review: The Northcote Saviour, Battersea

Tucked away on Northcote Road in Battersea, The Northcote Saviour brings something refreshingly different to the neighbourhood – a lively, all-day hangout where Spanish-inspired treats meet South London charm. Opened in late 2024 by Rhys Oldfield (co-founder of Be At One), this stylish yet unpretentious venue is part café, part cocktail bar, and part churrería.

By day, it’s all about the coffee and churros. Inspired by Oldfield’s family ties to Granada, the churros here are light, crisp, and sugar-dusted, perfect with a morning flat white or dipped into rich, velvety chocolate. The brunch offering is equally appealing, with hearty breakfast buns, quality coffee, and a few cheeky treats that encourage you to linger.

Come evening, The Saviour transforms effortlessly into a buzzing bar with a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere. The drinks menu is solid; classic cocktails with their own twist (try the “Bloody Saviour”), a well-chosen wine list, and a good range of keg beers including Guinness. The space itself is warm and inviting, with a laid-back vibe that makes it ideal for catching up with friends or stopping by solo. It’s also dog-friendly, and there’s outdoor seating when the weather cooperates.

The food, while not extensive, is cleverly curated – think juicy burgers with smoked bacon and house pickles, bar snacks with a Spanish accent, and sharing plates perfect for a light supper alongside your drink. While the focus isn’t on full meals, the menu does enough to complement the drinks and social atmosphere. It’s casual, quick, and satisfying.

Staff are friendly and enthusiastic, contributing to the venue’s neighbourhood feel. Service is generally smooth. The food was great, we opted for a series of small plates that left the table heaving and my particular favourite dishes were the succulent Chicken Skewers.

All in all, The Northcote Saviour is a welcome addition to the Clapham Junction and Battersea bar scene. It hits the sweet spot between a daytime coffee stop and a relaxed evening out, offering something a little different in an area already rich with pubs. Whether you’re in the mood for churros and a cappuccino or cocktails and conversation, it’s well worth a visit. With charm, character, and a clear sense of identity, it’s on track to become a local favourite.
