The Old Brewery Cutty Sark Review

Screen Shot 2017-07-21 at 10.30.04

Visiting the Cutty Sark is almost a momentous experience, because of the history of this clipper ship and every time you look at it, the beauty of the ship takes your breath away, especially at night, lit up with all its glory.

Near the Cutty Sark is a hidden gem known as The Old Brewery, a unique and historic pub tucked away in the grounds of the Old Naval Collage. Now I say historic pub, but by no means is this old fashioned, this pub attracts a young crowd, for those seeking quality British food and craft beer in a modern and trendy setting, with dark wooden bookcases, art work on the wall and big copper clad vats lining the walls. It’s certainly a pretty sight!

For the starter we opted for the Cornish pan seared scallops, they were fresh with a nice soft fleshy texture, and was complimented nicely with the cauliflower puree. The chorizo added a nice kick to the dish also.

For the main I went for the Mint Dorset lamb medallions, they were seasoned well, and quite meaty, so a good choice for the meat eaters out there. It came on a bed of ratatouille with spiced yogurt on the side. You can never go wrong with ratatouille, it wasn’t just a visual delight it tasted great, offering a burst of different flavours.  For the sides I choose cauliflower, toasted almonds and truffle oil and tender stem broccoli, two good additions to my meal.

My guest choose the Summer salad, which came with roasted cornfed chicken breast, bacon and croutons, an ideal dish for a Summers day when you want something light and healthy.

For the dessert we opted for one of the most loved puddings on the menu, the sticky toffee pudding, which came with malted banana ice cream. The warm moist sponge, makes this a comforting dessert, it’s an all time favourite of mines and I would happily just come into The Old Brewery for tea and sticky toffee pudding (I mean life is too short to say no to such a treat).

The service was great and we were look after well by the friendly and welcoming staff. Will we be back? You bet we will!
