UK Gambling Commission Fines Corbett Bookmakers £686,070 for Compliance Failures

The UK Gambling Commission has imposed a £686,070 fine on Corbett Bookmakers Limited following an investigation into social responsibility and anti-money laundering (AML) failings. The regulatory body concluded that the operator lacked effective controls to identify potentially harmful gambling behaviour and did not carry out sufficient due diligence on customer transactions.

Kay Roberts, Executive Director of Operations at the Gambling Commission, said in a statement: “We expect all gambling operators to proactively assess and manage the risk of harm and financial crime. In this case, there were clear shortcomings that could have led to serious consequences for both consumers and the integrity of the gambling market.”

In response to the decision, Corbett Bookmakers will be required to undergo enhanced compliance checks to ensure that all regulatory obligations are being met moving forward. The company has also committed to reviewing and updating its AML procedures and social responsibility training protocols.

The case highlights the ongoing pressure on gambling businesses to improve internal systems and policies to prevent misuse and protect vulnerable players.
