Afternoon Tea At The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill
Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, it has taken on a bold new identity—one that seamlessly fuses culture, storytelling, and culinary excellence. The Montagu Kitchen’s newly launched Asian-themed afternoon tea provides a first-class ticket to a gourmet adventure across the continent of Asia, all without leaving Marylebone.
The moment you step into The Montagu Kitchen, the experience begins. Greeted with a symbolic boarding pass and a refreshing welcome drink of Green Tea Lemonade, you’re immediately transported into a whimsical world of travel and taste. The boarding pass has the menu on it and just adds that cute little touch. This thoughtful attention to detail—from warm washcloths to the charming polaroid keepsake which we received during the dessert portion of our meal really helps the tone for what is a truly immersive and memorable dining experience.
The menu is curated by Executive Chef Carlo Martino and his talented team, and celebrates Asia’s vast and diverse culinary heritage. Each bite is beautifully balanced, showcasing the kitchen’s creative finesse. We throughly enjoyed the Pork Belly and Kimchi Bao Bun, which is rich and tender with just the right kick and the The Bombay Sandwich but found the Prawn Paniyaram and Duck Banh Mi slightly lacking. The Duck Banh Mi could have been elevated if it was warm because the flavours were there but it was just missing something.
The sweet course, served in a stunning handcrafted luggage box, is equally impressive. The Pandan Cake and Sakura and Cherry Flower Cake are visually stunning, while the Chocolate and Miso Lucky Cat is a charming and indulgent nod to Japanese ingredients. The Masala Tea Pot is both playful and packed with warming spice. And of course, no afternoon tea is complete without scones—served here with a refreshing papaya and mango jam, alongside the classic cream and strawberry option for purists.
Unfortunately I couldn’t eat the desserts due to a recent diagnosis of gestational diabetes but my friend and her kids throughly enjoyed them. I definitely missed out and will have to come back as soon as I’m allowed back on the sugar train.
The tea selection is as thoughtfully curated as the food. From matcha and blooming teas to the standout Montagu Bloom blend, which combines marigold, jasmine, and lychee, each cup adds another dimension to the journey. For those looking to elevate the experience further, options include a glass of Pommery Brut or Rosé Champagne, or the Wild Idolsparkling wine for a non-alcoholic yet equally celebratory touch. I must admit I was naughty and had a glass of Wild Idol and was not disappointed! It really elevated the afternoon tea experience and it’s so nice to see restaurants offer non-alcoholic sparkling options so everyone can get involved.
At £65 per person (with upgrades available), this afternoon tea is a fantastic value given the creativity, quality, and immersive nature of the offering. It’s perfect for food lovers, travel enthusiasts, or anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion in style.
In short, The Montagu Kitchen at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, has reimagined what afternoon tea can be: not just a meal, but a story told through taste, texture, and imagination. Don’t miss your boarding call—this is one culinary trip you’ll want to take again and again.
