Skewd Asia Review

You might recall that we previously visited Skewd in Cockfosters and their pop-up at The Grove, so I was thrilled to be invited to try out their new concept Skewd Asia, which opened in November 2025 just a few doors down from the original in Cockfosters.

The concept reflects the migration of Turkic culture from Central Asia through Japan, China, Korea, Mongolia and Southeast Asia before arriving in Anatolia. This journey forms the foundation of the restaurant’s identity, influencing the menu, cooking techniques, interiors and atmosphere.

At the centre of the restaurant is its open kitchen concept, allowing guests to fully experience the theatre of the dining room. Flames rise from the robata charcoal grill, sushi chefs work behind the counter, and every dish is prepared in full view, creating a strong connection between guest, chef and kitchen.

We started off by ordering cocktails: I opted for the Three Wishes, which was a bit like a Pornstar Martini but with a twist. I loved that it was served in an Aladdin’s genie lamp and put down on a square of carpet! My friend ordered the Natsu, which was really interesting and surprisingly tasty! It was a combination of Buttered Rum, Pear, Milky Oolong Tea, Vanilla, Citrus, 5 Spices, Yoghurt & Yuzu Toffee Foam, but wasn’t too creamy at all.

Then to the food, and oh was I spoiled for choice! The waiter who served us was really knowledgeable about the menu, and was so helpful whilst we made our decisions. We decided to share the Wagyu Tacos, Sashimi Selection and Tuna Tartar to start, and I was immediately impressed with how fresh all the ingredients and flavours were. I think the tacos might’ve been one of my favourite dishes of the night!

For mains, we shared the Miso Black Cod (a personal fave), Korean Style Chicken with a spicy-sweet gochujang glaze, Duck Fried Rice and the Wok Choi Sum with truffle oil. Every dish we ate was really delicious and I was so impressed by the quality of the food.

I will definitely be going back again to try some of the other dishes I fancied, including the Duck Salad, Sweet Chilli Seabass, Teriyaki Salmon and some of the sushi rolls!

For dessert, I was intrigued by a few of the dishes, as they blended classic Asian flavours with popular desserts. As well as serving Mochi and various flavours of ice cream and sorbet, I loved the Chocolate & Wasabi Tart (despite not usually being a wasabi fan!) and also tried the Black Sesame Panna Cotta. The Cheesecake with Yuzu and Matcha Coulis also sounded delicious!

Beyond the food, the decor and atmosphere was lovely and they host resident DJs on Friday and Saturday evenings, making it perfect for date night or a night out with friends.

If you’re looking for somewhere to visit for a special occasion or for a central London quality meal but in North London, then add Swekd Asia to your must-visit list!
