A Killer Night Out (Literally!): Murder Mystery at The Lucky Pig Review
Last night we stepped back in time to roaring twenties at Fitzrovia’s favourite speakeasy, The Lucky Pig Cocktail Bar for an immersive Murder Mystery.
The evening began with smooth jazz and a warm welcome from ‘Ms Polly’, the bar’s fictional owner, before tragedy struck: a young violinist was found dead in her dressing room. It’s up to us, the audience, to find the killer. Was it the jealous fiancé? The idealistic doctor? The business owner? Or the fascist socialite?
We were handed fact sheets detailing each suspect’s backstory, and encouraged to mingle, hypothesise, and interrogate the characters. While we opted to listen rather than question, the immersive format gave everyone a chance to play detective.
The venue’s intimate size added charm but also posed challenges. With music playing and guests chatting freely, it was often difficult to hear the actors—especially during key moments on the main stage. A few tweaks could elevate the experience: lowering the music during performances and introducing a clear signal when scenes begin might help focus attention.
Dressing up is encouraged, and we happily obliged—sparkly dresses, feathered headpieces, and vintage jewellery helped us channel the spirit of the Roaring Twenties. That era’s allure—prohibition, speakeasies, and jazz—was woven throughout the evening, creating a rich backdrop for the mystery.
The event kicks off at 7pm with a welcome cocktail included in the ticket price. Guests can choose from around ten options, though with only three bartenders early on, queues were a bit slow. After 8pm, when guests can purchase drinks, service speeds up. Canapés were served throughout the night—chicken tenders, veggie spring rolls, bruschetta, and cheese with prosciutto—offering a satisfying mix of nibbles.

It’s a lively, theatrical night out with a generous dose of vintage flair. The next murder mystery is set for February 2026—worth keeping an eye on for a fun, unique experience.
