A Timeless Gem in South Kensington – The Bentley Hotel
Stepping into The Bentley feels like stepping into a beautifully preserved slice of London’s rich history… or the set of Bridgerton. Originally built in 1880 and now a proud member of Historic Hotels Worldwide, this South Kensington landmark masterfully combines Victorian elegance with modern luxury.
From the moment I arrived, I marvelled at the charm of its historic townhouse façade which really set the tone for what’s inside—grandeur, elegance warmth, and refinement. The hotel has 64 rooms and suites which are generously spacious, each featuring luxurious touches such as fully marbled en-suite bathrooms, walk-in showers, and indulgent Jacuzzis that elevate the stay to something truly special. I was fortunate enough to be taken around and shown a large number of the rooms including ones some very famous celebrities have stayed in. I was very impressed. Our room was just as spectacular and with welcome touches like a bottle of wine and fresh fruit was extremely lovely.
One of the standout features of The Bentley is the serene Le Kalon Spa, home to one of the few traditional Turkish Hammams in the city—an authentic experience that’s as restorative as it is rare in London. I wish I could have experienced this but instead I got to enjoy a facial that had me feeling relaxed and made me the see the pregnancy glow everyone keeps telling me I have.
Dining at the Peridot Restaurant is a delightful experience. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely breakfast or indulging in a classic Afternoon Tea beneath its bright, airy setting, it’s easy to see why the space is favored by guests and locals alike. For dinner we had prawns for starters and the a perfectly cooked steak. Both my guest and I were feeling like we couldn’t eat another mouthful but were convinced to try the chocolate fondant dessert and cheesecake! Both were divine! There really is a second stomach for dessert when it’s as good as it was at the Peridot!
The Bentley’s location is also unbeatable—just a short stroll from the Natural History Museum, Royal Albert Hall, and two underground stations, making it a perfect base for exploring the city. We completed the Hidden City Adventure The Enchanted Mirror as we were in the area and it was perfect way to explore the gorgeous location that is South Kensington.
Whether you’re a history buff, a business traveler, or simply someone in search of a refined retreat, The Bentley offers a uniquely London experience wrapped in heritage and comfort. Highly recommended for those who appreciate timeless luxury in the heart of the capital.
Thanks for a lovely stay. The staff couldn’t have been kinder which really added to the whole experience and it wasn’t hard to see why The Bentley remains an institution in London.
