At ONIN we love to see young, fresh talent being given opportunities to showcase their full potential so we are extremely excited about the launch of a new theatre company and production that will be hitting Wimbledon Studio Theatre next week.

Angel Theatre Company is a newly formed organisation, dedicated to providing recent graduates with the opportunity to perform professionally within their first year of leaving drama school. They aim to produce challenging, character driven plays, selected specifically to showcase actors’ individual talents. Cast members work under the guidance of experienced industry professionals and are given a unique, rewarding first taste of a career in the theatre.

After months of rehearsals their debut production of Can’t Stand up For Falling Down by Richard Cameron will be opening at the New Wimbledon Studio Theatre from 7th – 11th July.

Company co-founder, John Patterson, has directed the production. Patterson has been working as a professional actor and director for over twenty years. He said, “Last year I directed drama school graduates in their agents showcase. Despite their obvious talent, some remained unrepresented. I felt that perhaps the standard drama school showcase format, where actors have a very limited time to sell themselves, had not quite given them the opportunity to truly display their range and ability to the full. This gave me an idea – a company dedicated to bridging the gap between training and entering the industry.”

He added, “I was particularly struck by the potential I saw in three actresses when working on the showcase and remembered a fantastic piece I had read many years ago for which they would be perfect casting. I thought Can’t Stand up For Falling Down would be the ideal vehicle to stretch and challenge them, truly displaying their range. It is an emotive, thought provoking piece, requiring great emotional investment and intensity from the cast.”

Can’t Stand up for Falling Down consists of three apparently separate but ultimately intertwined monologues. Lynette (Lara Bell), Jodie (Anna Bonnett) and Ruby (Samantha Loxley) are young women in a small Yorkshire town whose lives cross paths through encounters with a brutal bully named Royce. The play brings to life the suffocating fear of domestic violence in a small town.

Weather you love theatre or simply believe in supporting young talent we would highly recommend getting a ticket before they disappear!
