Aussie about London Town

I love London. It goes without saying because as an Aussie who has lived 20 minutes away from beaches or gorgeous wine country, I wouldn’t have moved here if I didn’t. Though sometimes living in a busy city can get to you and it’s why this Saturday, my friend and I decided to travel to see more of the country side that England has to offer. We chose Evans Evans Tours to take us on our journey to see Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Oxford. At 85 pounds they’ll pick you up at various hotels in central London or you meet them at Victoria Coach Station to begin your journey. Emily, our tour guide was awesome, enthusiastic and knowledge about England’s history. It kept us entertained on our sightseeing adventure.

First stop was Windsor Castle, a hugely impressive castle with lots of history and photograph opportunities to make friends back at home jealous. Unfortunately the staterooms were closed, so I’m going to have to make my way back there to get the full experience of the castle. The changing of the guards was also cut short because of the wet weather but was still worth watching. Once back on the Coach, Emily provided an entraining history of the Tudor dynasty and made sure I’ll always remember the ditty about King Henry’s six wives. “Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived’.

Next stop was Stonehenge. Before arriving at Stonehenge, Emily explained the history and culture of one of the Seven Wonders of the World. I had been to Stonehenge before in 2012, however, they’ve recently upgraded the visitor’s centre and exhibition rooms. Given that, plus they’ve discovered more information about Stonehenge in recent years, it made the visit a second time even more worthwhile. It still amazes me that we’ll never know for certain why this monument was built.

Lastly, Emily took us on a guided walking tour of Oxford. Teaching us about the universities and history in Oxford. Oxford is beautiful and the buildings were gorgeous. We wished we had more time in Oxford but it was getting dark and nearing the time when we had to get back on the coach to make our journey back to London. James, our driver made sure we all arrived back to London safely and Emily recommended different areas of interest where we may like to spend the rest of our evening.

If you’re interested in a day out and don’t want to have to do any of the hard work of getting there, I’d recommend choosing an Evans Evans Tour. It was definitely worth the money we spent and they have plenty of other destinations available, if the three places we chose don’t tickle your fancy.
