Avenue Q At Bob Hope Theatre Review

Avenue Q, the raunchy grown up version of the childhood favourite that rhymes with ‘mesame tweet’… is back and with a vengeance at the Bob Hope Theatre.

I’m consistently wow’d by the productions at Bob Hope Theatre and their version of Avenue Q. From the opening strains of ‘What do you do with a BA in English?’ To the final notes of ‘For Now’, it was obvious that the cast were heavily invested in the show and wanted the audience to be having just as much fun as they were performing.

This is not a show for the easily offended but if you can enjoy the lack of PC and raunchy scenes, you’ll find a musical with a lot of heart and be laughing long after the curtain drops.

Those unfamiliar with the show need to know the musical follows recent college grad, Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighbourhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

I’ve seen the show previously and while there were a few minor changes to make the show more relevant for the audience, the singing and acting is top notch throughout the entire performance! At times I had to remember I wasn’t watching this on the West End.

Congratulations Bob Hope Theatre in another top performance – we cant wait to see what you’ve got coming up next season! In the meantime I’ll be blasting the Avenue Q soundtrack.

There are still tickets to today’s matinee and tonight’s show so book your tickets now!
