Bar + Block’s New Spring Menu Review

On the 1st May, we were invited to Bar + Block, Aldgate for a steak masterclass followed by a three-course dinner prepped and cooked by Bar + Block’s Executive Chef, Paul Fletcher, and his team. We were welcomed with a watermelon flavoured cocktail… not my favourite fruit but delicious all the same.

The steak masterclass was quite interesting as we were shown and told, not only about the different cuts but also how to spiral cut a fillet steak. Pretty impressive if you ask me. Though it was the food we were most excited about trying.

Favourites consisted of the house Breads 3.00 Served with our special beef flavoured buttery spread, the new Korean BBQ Pork Ribs (Mini pork riblets cooked over charcoal and tossed in a Korean style BBQ sauce, topped with coriander) and the Middle Eastern King Prawns (Inspired by Middle Eastern flavours. Shell on king prawns in a roasted red pepper, tomato, harissa and garlic sauce, served with stone-baked flatbread).

The main course consisted of sharing platters of the classic Bar + Block cuts from British breeds of cattle reared across the Pampas in South America. These cuts were all aged for a minimum of 28 days and hand cut on site.  They were served with samphire and beef dripping triple cooked chunky chips. Absolutely delicious and we could have eaten more of these.

For dessert we received an individual platter of mini versions of the new desserts. The Triple Choc Brownie, Espresso Creme Brûlée and Mixed Berry Pavlova. I throughly enjoyed the Berry Pavlova, but found the choc brownie and the creme brûlée a tad too sweet. My friend though has more of a sweet tooth than me and loved the sweetness of the Triple Choc  Brownie.

Our food was complimented by an wine tasting we weren’t expecting and it was lovely to be able to sample some delicious wines we hadn’t heard of.

It was a great evening and we left with a fabulous goodie bag which included some of the wine we enjoyed throughout the course of the evening. For a full review of what it’s like to dine at Bar + Block Aldgate visit here.
