Bearly Made it! Heathrow Express Helps Families Reunite with Lost Bears This Christmas
One in five families admit to delaying journeys over missing teddies – Heathrow Express and Loved Before step in to save the season.
For many families, Christmas begins with a suitcase in one hand and a teddy in the other. But when that beloved bear goes missing, festive magic can quickly unravel.
New research from Heathrow Express – the direct 15‑minute service from Central London to Heathrow – reveals just how much chaos a lost cuddly toy can cause:
• 18% of UK parents have missed a connection or delayed travel because of a missing teddy
• 26% have spent up to half an hour searching for one
• 12% say the loss ruined their family trip altogether
• Nearly a third (29%) have bought a replacement bear abroad, with 45% spending up to £50 and 11% up to £100
• One in ten (11%) even “aged” a new bear with dirt to pass it off as the original
And when no quick fix is possible, parents often turn to imagination: a third (34%) admit to telling white lies about a teddy’s whereabouts – from being “on holiday” to “watching the house” or “visiting a teddy hospital.”

To bring joy back to travelling families this festive season, Heathrow Express has partnered with pre‑loved toy organisation Loved Before to launch Operation Teddy Rescue – a long‑term initiative to help lost bears find their way home. Families who misplace a teddy while travelling will be directed to Loved Before, offering parents an easy and reassuring way to search and children hope that their best friend may soon be reunited.
Each rescued teddy will be gently cleaned, cuddled, and reunited with its owner wherever possible. If the original family cannot be found, the bear will be lovingly rehomed to ensure it continues to be cherished. Some bears will share their journeys online as part of Loved Before’s 100 Days to Save Christmas campaign. A collection of pre‑loved teddies will also be donated to a local community organisation supported by Heathrow Express funding.
While teddy mishaps may be impossible to plan for, one part of the journey doesn’t have to be. With a smooth, spacious 15‑minute ride from Central London to Heathrow, Heathrow Express helps families hold on to the magic of Christmas – no traffic, no stress, just excitement and anticipation. Heathrow Express Advance fares start from £10 and there’s free travel for under‑15s with a paying adult.
