BoTree Bar And Ojo De Dios Mezcal Celebrate International Women’s Day
Saturday 8th March was International Women’s Day. To celebrate, The BoTree Bar partnered with Ojo De Dios Mezcal to host a masterclass led by inspiring women in the industry. Here we learnt about Mezcal while while raising a glass to incredible women shaping the hospitality industry.
Ojo De Dios is described as modern Mezcal born from the flair, passion and tradition of Mexico. In Mexican folk law, the Ojo de Dios is the eye to the soul and a window to the ancestral plane. The brand wants to tell the stories of Mexico, Mezcal and its traditions through a fresh lense – to represent the people who make and drink Mezcal today.

It was our first taste of the multi award winning Ojo De Dios Mezcal. It’s made from 100% Espadin agave and is a good introduction to the world of mezcal due to being purposefully balanced for both sipping and cocktails, such as a smoked picante. My friend had never had Mezcal before so had her first try in a margarita with a spicy rim. It was pleasantly smokey and peppery.

Ojo De Dios have produced the world’s first coffee mezcal-ODD Cafe. This is Espadin Mezcal blended with Mexican Arabica coffee and unrefined sugar cane. The coffee is grown by the Maia Bautista family in the moutains of Oaxaca. It is higher in alcohol and significantly lower in sugar than a coffee liqueur. It’s described as having notes of espresso, chocolate, liquorice and caramel. As it brings the energy vibes we were told it would be perfect in an expresso martini. I was a little disappointed we didn’t get to try this, as the flavours sound amazing and expresso martinis are one of my favourite cocktails.
We did get to try the ODD Hibiscus. This is Espadin Mezcal blended with hand-picked hibiscus flowers from the tranquil coastal town of Rio Grande. After it has been double distilled, hibiscus is then added and it’s macerated for 30-40 days. Did you know that the hibiscus is native to Mexico? The ODD Hibiscus has a nose of and after taste of berries with a touch of orange. We sipped it by itself as a sweet tipple and really enjoyed it. It would be great for summery cocktails like a paloma and spritz.

Ojo De Dios prides itself on being sustainably farmed and ethically produced. Ojo De Dios is made with 100% sustainably farmed Espadin agave which grows for 7-8 years before it’s harvested. it is 100% vegan.
The BoTree Bar is located in the luxury hotel of the same name on Marylebone Lane, London. The BoTree has a feature ceiling and teal marble bar bringing elegance and sophistication. It was a comfortable, relaxing vibe.
