Butlin’s Minehead Big Music Weekends – Giants Of Rock Review

Giants Of Rock performed for the fifth time at Butlin’s Minehead from the 25th to 28th January 2019. The weekend consisted of acts such as Skid Row, Roger Chapman Family & Friends, FM, Sweet, Atomic Rooster and many more.

For three nights, guests received great live rock and accommodation which was all included in the price. Prices started at just £129.00 per person and it was certainly as promised, ‘a live music weekend designed as a boutique festival with comfy beds, hot showers and no mud or rain’! The live performances took place simultaneously across multiple indoor venues, which gave guests a multitude of options to live out their wildest rock dreams.

Here’s what ONIN.London thought of the entire weekend.

Getting There

We drove from London and the 3.5/4hrs from London was extremely easy. My friend and I were charmed by the scenery of England including the lovely view of Stonehenge. Top tip, there’s a cute little 1950’s diner just before you get to Butlin’s. We stopped in for some food and it was well worth the stop.

Accommodation

When booking a Butlin’s Live Music Weekend, there’s a number of different self contained apartments you can choose from. We were set up in one of the sea side apartments. It’s an adorable two bedroom apartment with all the amenities we needed. We loved the extra touch of a ‘pin the tail on the donkey’ wooden board game in the kitchen. Daily house keeping was also lovely and the staff who visited our room were extremely pleasant.

Food

We were lucky enough to be gifted the Premium Dining option at Butlin’s Minehead. Priced at £33 per day for breakfast and lunch, the price is very affordable. I love a buffet as much as the next person, but the premium dining experience was a step above the classic resort buffet. The usual self-service was available, however, guests can choose to have certain dishes at both breakfast and lunch, prepared for their eyes. Don’t miss out on trying their breakfast sandwich and crepes. They were divine.

If the Premium Dining option isn’t for you, there are numerous places to eat in the resort. We had lunch on the Sunday at the Beach Comber and their Sunday Roast is top notch.

Music and Entertainment

Now I won’t lie, my friend and I aren’t the biggest rock fans, however, even we managed to ‘rock on’ with the hard core rockers who graced the event. Our favourite evening of the weekend was certainly the first night. Everyone was in good spirits and The Bon Jovi Experience was a definite highlight. Feedback from other guests was extremely positive, with many telling us that they’d already booked their tickets for next year’s event. The event was extremely well handled by staff and despite some venues having massive line ups outside their doors, they moved quickly. As you can see below, we were having a fabulous time.

To Do

One thing you notice, when you arrive at Butlin’s Minehead is the massive juxtaposition of heavy rockers in the quaint seaside resort. It certainly made for an interesting experience and one we reveled in.  When we weren’t listening to the live music or enjoying our apartment, there was plenty to do at Butlin’s Minehead. Think your classic Butlin’s entertainment, games, mini golf and trips to the seaside (a short walk from the resort).

Thanks Butlin’s for gifting us an amazing weekend. We’ll certainly be back for more Live Music Weekends.
