Zia Lucia launches in Hammersmith’s Brook Green

Fantastic news for all our West London Italian food connoisseurs, independent pizzeria, Zia Lucia, has opened a new local restaurant in Brook Green, and it’s absolutely wonderful.

Following a successful couple of year at their Islington home, founders Claudio Vescovo and Gianluca D’Angelo have brought their authentic Italian neighbourhood pizzeria to this leafy part of West London. Having heard rave reviews but never actually sampling this pizzeria’s creative take on an old classic, we popped down to the launch of their new restaurant, to sample the unusual doughs and delectable toppings.

Zia Lucia has become renowned for its impressive selection of 48-hour slow-fermented doughs, including traditional white flour, wholemeal, gluten free and vegetable charcoal black base. Intrigued by the name, we decided to sample the vegetable charcoal black base, opting for the Focaccia to start and as a base for the pizza main. We were a bit shocked when we first saw it, I’m not really sure what it were expecting but the first thoughts were, is it burnt? It definitely wasn’t burnt, quiet the opposite, we tucked in to a soft doughy base perfectly seasoned, it was so delicious we finished practically all of it off despite it’s mammoth portion size, which we realised probably wasn’t the wisest choice when we saw the size of the mains.

Once again, we were greeted with huge doughy bases, and the freshest  creative toppings. I opted for the incredibly indulgent Arianna; Mozzarella, taleggio goat cheese, pecorino cheese, truffle honey (literally all of my favourite things on a pizza). Usually served with Italian sausage, the team happily swapped this with sundried tomatoes to turn this into a lovely meat free option. After seeing how delicious everyone else’s dessert was, I just couldn’t resist, and topped it off with the dreamy tiramisu. Just delightful!

An absolute must if you are based this side of London, this picturesque pizzareia is the perfect example of what a true Italian should offer; fresh ingredients, wonderful service in a atmospheric setting. Just one word of warning, the Negroni’s, though delicious, are truly strong. Not one for the leight hearted (or weighted)
