Citadel Festival 2016

Sunday the 17th of July 2016 saw London putting on spectacular weather for the second year running, London’s newest festival, Citadel. Situated at Victoria Park, it really was the ultimate summer Sunday Sesh – packed with music, food, sports, comedy, theatre and more. Throughout the park, numerous boutiques were on hand to glitterfy festival goers. Thanks to The Braid Bar and Paperself, I myself got to sport glittery braids and a cool tattoo so I’d fit right in with the hip crowd that was at Citadel. I was then ready to discover all that was available on site and begin immersing myself in the festival experience.

Featuring an impressive line-up of indie and rock artists including Sigur Rós, Caribou, Lianne La Havas, Matt Corby, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and more, festival goers were spoilt for choice. The Indytute, wellbeing and yoga, enriching talks and debates at the Sunday Papers to comedy performances were also available for festival goers. This was great as it gave my cousin and I plenty of different choices on how to spend our day and we weren’t bored while waiting for the next musical performance.

DF / Mexico, Mr Bao, Bubbledogs, Anna Maes, Le Bun, Smokestak, BIRD and plenty of other street food vendors were available to ensure nobody left the event hungry. Anna Maes’ Mac and Cheese was my dish of the evening and was amazing. You really can’t go wrong with Mac and Cheese, plus it was very much needed carbs to soak up all the Stella Artois Cidre, we were consumed throughout the day.

This really was the perfect summer Sunday and has now set the bench mark for me for future festivals. Now we just have to wait until next year when Citadel will return in all its glory.
