Double Tree Hilton Edinburgh

The first overseas hotel I ever stayed at was a Double Tree Hilton, so they’ve always held a bit of a special place in my heart. Onin.London were very grateful to be able to stay last weekend at the Double Tree Hilton in Edinburgh and it brought back those fond memories.

The hotel was built in 1892 and is situated in the heart of the city, 10 minutes from Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. We could even see the castle from our room. Pretty special if you ask us.

Even more special was the warm DoubleTree cookie we were given upon arrival. I definitely didn’t get these 17 years ago when I first stayed at a Double Tree so this was a nice treat.

While checking in, staff were extremely friendly and we witnessed the same friendliness towards other guests.

As I already mentioned, our room was great and had a lovely view of Edinburgh Castle. This was a great treat and we did find ourselves enjoying the view on more than one occasion. The room itself was very clean and exactly what we needed for a two night stay.

Our first night we ventured down to Monboddo, to enjoy dinner. The menu had something for everyone and it all looked so good! In the end we chose Chilli and Garlic King Prawns with Chorizo, roast peppers and a 1/2 Kilo of Shetland Mussels with Cider cream sauce to start with. Both were delicious!

Main wise, Monboddo  weren’t kidding when they said the mains aren’t “wee plates”. The Battered Coley Chunks Pea puree and tartar sauce and Grilled Scotch Sirloin Steak Slices 8oz with Roast vine cherry tomatoes, Chimichurri, peppercorn sauce & herb butter were huge.

We couldn’t fault any of the food and definitely had us feeling full… but not enough that we couldn’t enjoy Sticky Toffee Pudding to finish.

After a restful night’s sleep, we enjoyed a quick breakfast before leaving to complete a day tour to Loch Ness and the Highlands with Timberbush Tours. (Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking to explore more of Scotland). Breakfast is always something a Hilton does right and the Double Tree Hilton Edinburgh is no exception.

Given that the Double Tree Hilton was a 10 minute walk to the pick up location, it really did make it the perfect hotel to stay in.
