Entering the Giant Robot

If you don’t live near Canary Wharf and don’t work in finance, you could be mistaken in thinking you have no reason to visit the area. However, you’d be wrong, and the clever folks behind Street Feast have selected a brand new spot set on the rooftop of Crossrail Place that’s not to be missed.

Giant Robot has an impressive cocktail bar, as well as a bar dedicated solely to beer, alongside a variety of street food vendors that had our taste buds singing in delight, Giant Robot brings a different and more relaxed vibe to the financial district.

It turns out that here you can get your hands on some of the crispiest and most deliciously flavoured chicken wings we’ve found in the City by Thunderbirds, the one stop chicken shop. Both the BBQ and chippufalo wings were a real favourite, as well as the cajun fries which featured an ‘awesome sauce’ which stayed true to its name.

I’d also highly recommend the bao buns by yum bun that had us savoring each bite; be sure to opt for the roasted pork belly if you like pork as it was cooked to perfection. Sticky, sweet and tender, perfectly accompanied by the fluffy steaming hot bun it arrived in.

If the sound of a Southern Californian-inspired menu by the boys behind Breddos Tacos grabs your attention, then Pocho will be the one. They served the most incredible smoked cauliflower, and a variety of cheeseburger sliders including a classic one, a bacon one, a jalapeño one and a veggie option; if you’re like me and enjoy sampling lots of different things at the same time, this is a great choice.

The Giant Robot rooftopia is perfect for evenings in the City, and at the weekends its a surprising oasis to escape the overpowering skyscrapers Canary Wharf is known for. With an in-house DJ playing tunes, a cocktail menu featuring classics such as a peach bellini or mojito, as well as some more daring items like the ‘penicillin’, The food and drinks here, will have you coming back for more.

It is open daily from 11am to Late, and takes bookings for larger groups as well as exclusive venue hire.
