Escape London And Visit The Nut Tree Inn … Michelin-Star Magic in the Oxfordshire Countryside
On the second of August 2025, Onin.London escaped London and ventured to the picturesque Oxfordshire village of Murcott to visit The Nut Tree Inn. This venue is the kind of place that makes you fall in love with British pub culture all over again as it’s charming both inside and out. The Nut Tree Inn had had a coveted Michelin Star since 2008… and from the first warm greeting to the last decadent bite, it’s clear why.
The Nut Tree Inn is run by husband-and-wife duo Mike and Imogen North and strikes the perfect balance between relaxed country pub comfort and world-class dining. Mike works his magic in the kitchen, crafting dishes that are as beautiful as they are flavour-packed, while Imogen leads the front-of-house team with a warmth that makes every guest feel instantly at home.
The al la carte menu looked amazing but we opted for the tasting menu priced at £95 for lunch and couldn’t have been happier as each course just got better and better!
We started with a selection of Nut Tree bread and butter before moving on to the first course.
A Baked potato Velouté with parmesan, bacon crumb. Omg despite the weather, I could have bathed in this soup. It was so delicious and would have been happy if I’d received only 7 more courses of this!
Next up was the Tart of lightly pickled red cabbage & beetroot horseradish ice cream. A real palette cleanser and so refreshing, perfect for a summer’s day!
The third and fourth courses were a Fillet of seabass with Nut Tree Garden potatoes & courgettes, vermouth sauce and wild garlic oil and a Fillet of beef from Aubrey Allen – cooked medium rare pea puree, pickled trompettes, Madeira sauce and summer truffle. Both courses were perfectly cooked and melted in our mouths.
While we had the option for an extra cheese course, we decided we were ready to skip straight to dessert and we were not disappointed!
Our fifth course was the delicious Chocolate egg. Chocolate mousse, salted caramel and almond chantilly served in a real egg! It was such a charming little taster before the main event!
The sixth and final course was the Raspberry souffle with Nut Tree Garden raspberry sorbet and chambord custard. If there was ever a dessert I wanted to marry… it would be this one. It was utter perfection. Light and fluffy, it’s the dessert dreams are made of! I almost told the staff I never received it so I could sneak another.
We’ve also heard that Sunday lunches at The Nut Tree Inn are an event in themselves, featuring standout roasts like Fillet of Beef with Yorkshire pudding and rich red wine gravy, or Confit of Creedy Carver Duck with an aromatic orange and five spice sauce. Even vegetarian diners are spoiled with vibrant dishes like Jerusalem Artichoke Risotto with pickled trompettes and gran kinara. I mean they all sound delicious and worth the visit outside of London!
So whether you’re here for a leisurely drink, a celebratory dinner, or a memorable Sunday roast, there’s a space that feels just right. And yes – dogs are welcome in the bar and garden, so your four-legged friends can enjoy the visit too.
With its AA Notable Wine List with non-alcoholic options also available, faultless service, and the kind of cooking that lingers in your memory long after you’ve left, The Nut Tree Inn isn’t just a great pub – it’s a destination. Whether you’re local, exploring Oxford, or on a shopping trip to Bicester Village, this is one place worth making a detour for.
Open Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm until late.
