Heliot Steakhouse Review
I’ve lived in London my whole life but until this weekend, had never been inside the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square. Whilst playing roulette might not be my thing, we were invited to try Heliot Steakhouse and it was well worth the visit.
Upon arrival, we went through a separate entrance on Leicester Square and were shown straight upstairs to the bar and restaurant area, which was full of both groups of friends starting their Friday night out and colleagues/business travellers having a meal or hitting the casino floor.
After being sat at our table and ordering our cocktails (a delicious Paloma for me and fruity Rum Punch for him), we were taken through the menu, with our server telling us some of his favourite dishes and some of their specials. The menu all sounded really tempting, so we were a bit spoilt for choice!
In the end, I ordered the Tuna Tartare to start, which had the most light and delicious ginger and sesame dressing, and my other half ordered the Seared Scallops, which were beautifully served in their shells and surrounded by seaweed.
For mains we were torn between all of the steak options and the sides, so we decided to share a Tasting Board (Fillet, Sirloin and Rib Eye) so we didn’t miss out on trying anything. As an occasional steak eater, I loved that the waiter explained each of the steak and sauce pairings on the Tasting Board, so I had a better understanding of why each chosen sauce complimented each piece of meat. I could’ve ordered all of the sides on the menu, so we went for a selection; Skinny Fries with Rosemary Salt, Sweet Potato Fries, the most buttery and smooth Mashed Potato and Creamed Spinach. All of the dishes were both amazing on their own, but also paired so well with the steaks we ordered.
Surprise surprise, we had no space for dessert but the Chocolate Gateau and Pistachio Lava Cake would’ve been right up my street!
As well as delicious food, it’s the perfect spot for people watching without being in the thick of all the action – you’re one step removed from the casino floor, but still have a great view of everything going on!
